System designer

Design your system.

An interactive tool that takes your well depth, the water you need per day and the sun your location actually gets, and works out the shape of a solar pumping or off-grid power system to match it — before you talk to anyone.

The interactive designer is being prepared.

We have built the sizing tool and are getting it ready to run here on the site. It is not live yet, and we would rather say so plainly than put up a form that does not compute anything. When it launches it will appear on this page. [TIM: target launch date — state it here or delete this sentence]

Until then, there are two ways to get to the same answer, and the second one is how every system on this site is specified today.

  • Learn what the numbers mean Head, flow, static water level, drawdown — the guide explains the vocabulary and lists exactly what to measure at your own well.

  • Have us size it with you Send whatever figures you have — rough ones are fine — and we will work through the sizing and come back with a specification and a price.

What it does

Your numbers, your sunlight, one honest estimate.

The designer does the arithmetic that otherwise happens in a back-and-forth over email. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a specification you can build from.

  • What you tell it

Where the property is, how deep the well goes, how far down the water sits, how much water you need per day, and how far and how high it has to travel to reach your tank.

  • What it works out

Total head from your figures, the daily energy the job needs, and how that lands against the sunlight your location actually receives through the year — which is why the same well needs a different array in Arizona than in Montana. [TIM: name the irradiance data source used by the app so we can cite it here]

  • What it will not do

It does not survey your well, size a pump to code, or replace a licensed professional. It cannot know your well’s real yield, and it does not produce a design you should hand to an installer as final.

What an estimate is worth.

A tool works from the numbers you give it. If your static water level is a guess, everything downstream of it is a guess too — which is fine for deciding whether a project is plausible, and not fine for ordering equipment. The well pump guide explains which figures matter most and where to find them, usually on your well log.

Non-potable applications. This tool and everything it describes concern livestock watering, irrigation, tank filling and similar non-potable uses. We do not offer or describe any pump on this site as suitable for drinking water.

Sizing and installation stay with licensed professionals. A licensed well or pump professional should assess your well and set the pump; a licensed electrician should handle wiring, disconnects, grounding and bonding. Well and electrical work are permitted and inspected locally, and the requirements vary by state and county. We supply equipment and work through the sizing with you — we do not design to code on your behalf.

Rough numbers are fine to start. Invented ones are not.

Tell us about your well.

Send us the depth, the water level and how much water you need per day. We will tell you what we would put on it — or tell you honestly if we do not have the right product for the job.
